Karl Bader (Librarian)

Karl August Bader (born June 27, 1868 in Darmstadt , † February 19, 1956 ) was a German historian and librarian .

Life

Bader's father Karl was the Grand Ducal Accountant. After attending the Ludwig-Georgs-Gymnasium in Darmstadt, Bader studied history and modern philology in Munich , Strasbourg and Gießen , where he received his doctorate in 1896. From 1895 to 1933 he worked at the State Library in Darmstadt , from 1925 as its deputy director. Bader wrote numerous writings on Hessian history. He became known nationwide, however, through his biographical reference work "Lexicon of German Librarians", which appeared in 1925.
