Karl Baumann (pedagogue)

Karl Wilhelm Baumann (born April 19, 1896 in Frankfurt am Main ; † 1957 ) was a German educator and professor for the didactics of natural sciences and mathematics at the Pedagogical Academy in Bonn .

Born as the son of a master cooper and wine merchant, he passed his Abitur in 1914 at the Kaiser-Friedrichs-Gymnasium in Frankfurt . He then served in World War I, most recently as a reserve lieutenant. From 1917 to 1921 he studied mathematics and natural sciences in Frankfurt up to the first state examination. In 1925 he received his doctorate in chemistry from the University of Frankfurt am Main . From 1926 to 1930 he taught in Frankfurt, then he went to the Pedagogical Academy in Bonn to teach mathematics and natural sciences. In November 1933 he signed the German professors' confession of Adolf Hitler . After the closure in 1937 he was at the universities for teacher training in Koblenz and Saarbrücken. After 1945 he taught at grammar schools in Frankfurt until 1957.
