Karl Blum (politician)

Karl Blum (born April 15, 1878 in Pehlitz , † March 29, 1945 in Jeßnitz ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

After attending elementary school, Blum learned the metalworking trade and, after taking evening courses, attended the state mechanical engineering school in Magdeburg . He worked as a locksmith and machine builder in a fittings factory until 1920, was also involved in trade unions and was head of the German Metalworkers' Association from 1907 to 1919 . From September 1920 to 1933 he worked full-time as the SPD party secretary for the districts of Jerichow I and II, based in Burg .

From 1920 to 1928, Blum was an honorary head of office in Biederitz . Until 1933 he was a member of the county council and the county committee and deputy district administrator of the district Jerichow I . He was also a member of the district committee of the administrative district of Magdeburg . In 1928 he was elected to the Prussian state parliament, to which he belonged until 1933.

After the National Socialists came to power, Blum was imprisoned in the Lichtenburg concentration camp until Christmas 1933 .
