Karl Brenke

Karl Brenke (* 1952 ) is a German economist . He works as a speaker at the German Institute for Economic Research Berlin (DIW). His area of work is business cycle analysis and business cycle forecasting .

education and profession

He studied sociology , economics and statistics at the Free University of Berlin . From 1983 to 1985 he was a research assistant at the Free University of Berlin (Research Center for Social Economics of Work) and since 1985 he has been a consultant at the DIW.

Study on the situation of skilled workers

A DIW study by Brenkes on the shortage of skilled workers in 2010 was discussed in the daily updated media . Brenke claimed in the title of a preliminary publication that the often alleged shortage of skilled workers was a mirage . The head of DIW at the time, Klaus F. Zimmermann , edited the version of the text, weakened the title ( shortage of skilled workers not yet in sight ) and wording so that it did not contradict the theses he represented too strongly. This process was discussed in various media and was also discussed when it became known that Zimmermann had been replaced.
