Karl Eitner
Karl Eitner (born July 14, 1805 in Herrnstadt ; † November 7, 1884 in Weimar ) was a German writer , translator and private scholar .
Life
Eitner studied theology and philosophy in Breslau . He took up residence in the Silesian Herrendorf (Chłopowo). From 1858 he lived in Weimar. He was good friends with the painter Adolph Menzel , who portrayed him and with whom he exchanged letters. In November 1884 he put an end to his life himself.
Best known today is his absurd translation of Dante's Divine Comedy .
