Karl Fischer (hydrologist)

Karl Fischer (born March 11, 1868 in Berlin-Spandau ; † May 2, 1943 there ) was a German hydrologist .

Life

Hermann Karl Fischer was the son of master weaver Friedrich August Fischer (* 1832) and Caroline Ernestine Marzahn (* 1834) from couples in Havelland .

After initially working as an assistant at the Prussian Meteorological Institute in Berlin, in 1896 Fischer became a research assistant at the office of the “Committee for the investigation of water conditions in river areas particularly exposed to the risk of flooding”. He worked on the monographs of the North German streams published by the Strombauverwaltung .

After founding the Prussian State Institute for Hydrology in Berlin, he became its employee and at the same time was a permanent "scientific assistant" in the Ministry of Public Works.

Karl Fischer was appointed professor in 1912. He had been a member of the Leopoldina since 1940 .
