Life

Fitting studied law in Frankfurt am Main, Leipzig and Giessen. After the transfer of power to the National Socialists, he had to interrupt his studies for political reasons. Fitting then worked as a fur dyer in Leipzig. He was arrested in 1942 and taken to the Mauthausen concentration camp . After the liberation of the concentration camp in 1945, he became a consultant in the Bavarian Ministry of Labor. From 1948 he worked in the Administration for Labor of the United Economic Area . Finally he retired as Ministerial Director in 1977.

Many legal formulations originate from Karl Fitting, especially in the co-determination laws and the associated electoral regulations. The former President of the Federal Labor Court quotes Fitting's statement from the controversy over the MitbestG of 1976: "If we don't get that into the law properly, we will smooth it out in the electoral code, and if that doesn't work either, we'll do it in the comment." (Hellmut Wißmann, President of the Federal Labor Court a. D. about Karl Fitting)

He became known through the commentary he published on the Works Constitution Act . Fitting was an honorary professor at the comprehensive university in Kassel .
