Carl Friedrich Dieterici

Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Dieterici , also Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Dieterici (born August 23, 1790 in Berlin ; † July 30, 1859 ibid), was a statistician and economist .

Life

Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Dieterici studied law and history in Königsberg and Berlin from 1809, took part in the campaigns against France as an engineer-geographer and officer at Blücher's headquarters and, after several other assignments in the civil service, was employed in the Ministry of Culture in Berlin in 1820, and in 1831 as a secret councilor In 1834 he was appointed professor of political science at the university while retaining his position in the ministry and, in 1844, was appointed director of the Royal Prussian Statistical Bureau as successor to Hoffmann . In the years 1841/42 and 1851/52 he was rector of the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin . After his death, Ernst Engel succeeded him in office. In 1847 he became a member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .
