Karl Gösele (born July 24, 1912 in Kirchheim unter Teck ; † January 14, 2004 in Stuttgart ) was a German building physicist . For a long time he was the nestor of building acoustics in Germany.

resume

Karl Gösele studied physics at the TH Stuttgart and received his diploma in 1937. Two years later he received his doctorate. He continued his academic career at the Technical University of Stuttgart and completed his habilitation in 1942 on the subject of " Sound absorption through acoustic filters". From 1938 to 1945 he worked at the research institute " Graf Zeppelin " and at the Institute for Technical Physics in Stuttgart. In 1946 he took over the provisional management of the building research institute of the TH Stuttgart. In 1949 he became department head and in 1964 head of the institute for technical physics at the TH Stuttgart, later the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics . Retired in 1978, he continued to work on research projects to calculate and improve noise protection until his death. Karl Gösele is the father of the physicist Ulrich Gösele .

Life's work

The calculation methods included in DIN 4109 "Sound insulation in building construction" for the advance calculation of sound insulation in buildings go back to Gösele's research.

In the course of his scientific work he published more than 300 publications, among other things he was co-author of one of the standard works of building physics "Sound-Heat-Humidity".
