Karl Galinsky

Karl Galinsky (born February 7, 1942 in Strasbourg ) is an American classical philologist .

Galinsky, son of the Americanist Hans Galinsky , grew up in Alsace and Germany. He attended the humanistic high school in Mainz until he graduated from high school in 1961. Then he went to study in the USA. He received his Masters (1965) and PhD degrees (1966) from Princeton University .

Since 1966 he has taught at the University of Texas at Austin , where he has held the Floyd A. Cailloux Centennial Chair in Classical Studies since 1991.

In particular, he is a specialist in the Augustan era of Roman literature and history .
