Society for Classical Studies
The Society for Classical Studies ( SCS ) is a non-profit association founded in 1869 for North American researchers in the field of Roman and ancient Greek culture, history. Until 2013 it was known as the American Philological Association ( APA ); In 2014 it was renamed the Society for Classical Studies.
While the association originally carried out research projects on various languages, over time it specialized in Latin and ancient Greek, as the most diverse philological associations of modern languages emerged over time. The association's journal, the Transactions of the American Philological Association (TAPA, also TAPhA according to some scientific formulas), is a leading international series of publications in classical philology .
The association holds its annual meetings in January with the Archaeological Institute of America . It is based at the University of Pennsylvania .
List of presidents
The following list is based on the list of Past Presidents of the Society for Classical Studies . The board of directors is elected annually at the general assembly, which originally took place in July (until 1903). In 1904 the meeting took place in September, from 1905 to 1999 towards the end of December (1964 on August 29), since 2001 in January.
