Karl Gottlieb Schweikart
Karl Gottlieb Schweikart (born February 28, 1772 in Ludwigsburg , Württemberg; † July 29, 1855 in Tarnopol , Galicia) was an Austrian portrait painter.
Life
He turned to painting at an early age, dropped out of school and learned drawing and painting in Karlsruhe, Stuttgart and Strasbourg between 1787 and 1792. From 1795 he studied at the Vienna Academy of Arts . In 1800 he traveled to Prague and in 1802 to Galicia, where he also settled. In 1807 further trips to Moscow, Hungary and Bukovina followed.
Between 1810 and 1830 he was one of the most famous portrait painters in Galicia . Antoni Laub and Korneli Szlegl were among his students .
