Karl Gustav Friedrich Hüttenschmid

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Gustav Friedrich Hüttenschmid (born April 30, 1774 in Weilimdorf , † 1839 in Zurich ) was the first German pharmacist to receive approval for naturalization in Zurich since the Reformation.

Life

He probably learned in a pharmacy in Württemberg and came to Switzerland as an assistant in 1795 . There he became provisional assistant to the pharmacy from Hottinger to three rope makers and then from Schultheiss near Hammerstein . By marriage he became a partner there in 1799 and remained the owner of the pharmacy in Zurich until his death.

In Zurich he founded a pharmacy school in Württemberg, which was continued by his son Karl Friedrich. Most of the assistants in his pharmacy were from Württemberg. Large quantities of Galenica were produced in the pharmacy and reached the size of a materials store. He supplied many city and country doctors in and around Zurich who at that time were mostly still dispensing themselves.
