Karl Theodor Haßloch (baptized May 21, 1769 in Amorbach ; † August 23, 1829 in Darmstadt ) was a German theater actor and opera singer ( tenor , bass and baritone ), composer , conductor , opera director , theater director and librettist .

Life

Haßloch worked in Mannheim from 1789 , where he replaced the actor Friedrich August Werdy , and in 1793 married the singer Christiane Keilholz . From 1797 to 1806 he directed the theater in Kassel , which he left because of the occupation by Napoleonic troops. Then he went to Hamburg (1800–1801). In 1809 he went to Darmstadt as an opera director, where he also took over the post of court conductor in 1813. He also performed with his wife in 1800 under Goethe in Weimar.

He had not achieved a prominent position as an actor, but acted more than his wife's husband. Nevertheless, he was of rare versatility ("Don Carlos", "Tamino", "Don Juan"). As a singer he could be called a vocal phenomenon. He also sang tenor and bass-baritone roles .

In Darmstadt he became a member of the Masonic Lodge Johannes der Evangelist zur Eintracht .
