Karl Heinz (born September 15, 1895 in Vienna , † November 7, 1965 in Berkeley , California ) was an Austrian politician ( Social Democratic Workers' Party ) and member of the National Council .

education and profession

Karl Heinz attended compulsory school and then learned the profession of typesetter . After wandering through Germany , Switzerland and Italy , Heinz found a job in the secretariat of the SdP in Vienna in 1918. Between 1926 and 1931, Heinz was editor of the magazine of the Schutzbund . In 1929 he was secretary of the International Commission for the Defense against Fascism. After the February fighting in 1934, Heinz emigrated to Czechoslovakia , 1938 to Paris , 1939 to Stockholm , and in 1941 finally to Los Angeles via the Soviet Union and the Philippines . Heinz worked here as an auxiliary and warehouse worker and in 1942 moved to the administration of the University of Berkeley . During his emigration he also helped to set up the diplomatic mission of the Austrian Social Democrats.

Political career

Karl Heinz was chairman of the Socialist Youth Workers between 1921 and 1930 and chairman of the Socialist Youth International between 1926 and 1931. From December 2, 1930 he represented the Social Democratic Labor Party in the Austrian National Council until it was dissolved.
