Karl Heinz Chelius

Karl Heinz Chelius (born February 14, 1934 in Kaiserslautern ; † August 1, 2013 in Würzburg ) was a German classical philologist .

Karl Heinz Chelius studied Classical Philology at the University of Mainz . From the 1970s he was involved in the preparations for the Augustinus Lexicon , which Cornelius Petrus Mayer drove with the support of the German Research Foundation . 1984 Chelius was with a dissertation on the history of the text of Plautus at the University of Mainz in Andreas Thierfelder Dr. phil. PhD . From September 1, 1984, he was the full-time editor of the Augustinus Lexikon, which he was editorially responsible for from the beginning until his retirement on March 1, 1999. Even in retirement he supported the Augustinus Lexicon as "editor emeritus" and philological advisor. He played a decisive role in the fundamental development of the extensive corpus of writings of St. Augustine . His list of Augustine writings and editions is known in specialist circles as the "Chelius List". He also participated as a flag reader in the revision (2nd edition, 1990) of the index volume for the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae .

Karl Heinz Chelius was married to the Germanist Annemarie Chelius-Göbbels (1936–1999). Together with her he founded the Dr. Annemarie and Dr. Karl Heinz Chelius Foundation for Medicine at the Medical Mission Institute in Würzburg.
