Dietfried Krömer (born April 3, 1938 in Stadt-Olbersdorf , Silesia , Czechoslovakia ; † August 19, 2006 in Munich ) was a German classical scholar .

Life

Dietfried Krömer was born in Silesia and interned with his family after the end of the Second World War . After their release, the family moved to Kulmbach in 1949, where Krömer attended grammar school. He studied classical philology at the University of Würzburg and at the Free University of Berlin . There he received decisive stimulus from Rudolf Kassel , to whom he was a research assistant and who received his doctorate in 1971 on Xenophons Agesilaos .

In the course of the university-political upheavals of the 1970s, Krömer participated in the reform of the course, on the one hand as managing director of the seminar for classical philology, on the other hand as chairman of the committee of the rules of procedure in the council of the FU. His habilitation did not come about. In 1973 he was appointed assistant professor. In 1976 he moved to the University of Cologne , again as assistant to his teacher Rudolf Kassel, who had been appointed there a year earlier.

In 1978, Krömer accepted a permanent position as a research assistant at the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae in Munich. His tasks included, among other things, the revision of the citation list, for which he had to sift through literature from over 80 years. In 1983 he was appointed editor, in 1990 managing director and overseeing extensive administrative tasks. He organized conferences, had the library and archive rooms redesigned, expanded the library and computer equipment of the institute and was the editor of the publications for the centenary of the thesaurus. He made particular contributions to the introduction of EDP into thesaurus work.

In 2003 he was retired; three years later he died at the age of 68.
