Pat "Mother Blues" Cohen (born April 29, 1957 in Monroe , North Carolina ) is an American blues singer .

Life

She grew up in a musical family in which the blues played an important role. During jam sessions on her uncle's terrace, she heard and sang this music as a little girl. Her musical career began in the early 1980s when she was asked if she would like to perform at a local club in the place where she was going to college .

" I had three days to find three musicians and put together 30 songs. They loved me — the rest is history because I've been singing the Blues ever since." (I had three days to find three musicians and learn 30 songs. They loved me - and the rest is history, because I've been singing the blues ever since.)

For years she performed in New Orleans six days a week in various clubs and venues, including the House of Blues . When Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans , she moved to Greensboro, where she has lived ever since. At that time she joined the Music Maker Blues Revue, with whom she regularly appears.

Her singing style and her performances are reminiscent of her great idols Billie Holiday , Koko Taylor and Etta James . In addition to blues, she also sings jazz and rhythm and blues .
