International Freedom of Expression Exchange
International Freedom of Expression eXchange ( IFEX ) is a global network of around 80 non-governmental organizations that campaign for freedom of expression . The network was founded in 1992 in Montreal , Canada .
IFEX exchanges information over the Internet and carries out actions and campaigns on subjects such as freedom of the press , Internet censorship , freedom of information laws , defamation and libel laws , media concentration and attacks against journalists , writers , human rights defenders and Internet users.
The network includes a broad coalition of organizations working to protect journalists and media workers, academics, photographers and cameramen , writers, cyber dissidents , publishers , cartoonists , free radio stations and libraries . Members include Human Rights Watch , Reporters Without Borders , the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions , the Association mondiale des radiodiffuseurs communautaires, and PEN
IFEX provides information to many intergovernmental organizations that monitor freedom of expression. These include UNESCO , the African Commission on Human and Peoples ' Rights , the Council of Europe , the European Union , UNHCHR , the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media .
