Karl Hempel (politician)

Karl Hempel (born August 12, 1827 in Bromberg ; † August 18, 1899 there ) was a landowner and a member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Hempel attended grammar school in Bydgoszcz and was trained as a farmer on estates in the province of Posen , Saxony and Hanover . In 1850 he attended two semesters for theoretical training at the agricultural academy in Jena . In 1851, after the death of his father, he took over the Grostwo estate, which was named "Hempels Feld" and was incorporated into the town of Bromberg in 1858. From 1868 to 1880 he was a city councilor and from October 1880 a city councilor. He was also co-founder and board member of the Bromberger Gewerbebank and board member of the Netzewiesen-Meliorations-Genossenschaft.

From 1881 to 1884 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency administrative district Bromberg 3 (Bromberg-Stadt) and the German Progressive Party . Although the election was declared invalid in 1882, Hempel was able to prevail again in the replacement election in August 1882.
