Karl Hillebrand (astronomer)
Karl Hillebrand (born December 26, 1861 in Vienna , † January 10, 1939 in Kroisbach (Graz) , Styria ) was an Austrian astronomer .
Life
Karl Hillebrand studied astronomy, theoretical physics and mathematics at the University of Vienna from 1881 to 1887 with Weiss , Oppolzer and Seeliger . In 1890 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD, 1892 assistant at the observatory, 1897 private lecturer in astronomy. Hillebrand was an associate professor for astronomy in Graz from 1902 and a full professor from 1911, and from 1911 to 1933 he was also the director of the university observatory. He worked in the field of theoretical astronomy and the development of cosmic systems. Hillebrand was a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .
The asteroid 722 Frieda with the provisional designation 1911 NA was named after Hillebrand's daughter Frieda .
