Karl Hofmann (painter)
Karl Hofmann (born September 10, 1852 in Lienz , † April 25, 1926 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian painter . He was a representative of the "Austrian mood impressionism " (sometimes also called "mood realism"). He comes from an old Lienz family, studied in Innsbruck and Vienna and was a high school professor there for a long time.
Karl Hofmann is regarded as a high quality artist, who has, however, been somewhat forgotten. He belongs to the circle of the Austrian artists Emil Jakob Schindler , Tina Blau , Alfred Zoff .
Hofmann mainly painted southern landscapes, seascapes, coastal landscapes, but also motifs from his Tyrolean homeland. Still lifes are rarely found, portraits at all in his oeuvre, which is known to this day. The "Sonnenhof" he planned and built high above the Lienz valley floor deserves special attention. It is one of the few pure Art Nouveau buildings in the entire district and has largely been preserved in its original condition. The painter's pictures are in the Museum of the City of Lienz at Schloss Bruck and are privately owned.
