Karl Kübler (born July 4, 1897 in Simmersfeld near Nagold , † May 10, 1990 in Tübingen ) was a German classical archaeologist .

Kübler attended high school in Tübingen and, after graduating from high school in 1915, initially studied architecture in Stuttgart , a. a. with Ernst Robert Fiechter . After a short time he became a soldier in the First World War and was seriously injured in 1917, which also led to a reduction in his eyesight. He then studied classical archeology at the University of Tübingen , where he received his doctorate in 1925 under Carl Watzinger . In 1927/28 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute .

From 1927 he took part in the German excavations in Kerameikos in Athens , led by Alfred Brueckner , and led them from 1932. From May 23, 1937, he was, initially acting, and finally, from December 17, 1937, 2nd Secretary (Director) of the Athens Department of the German Archaeological Institute . In this function he was able to continue the excavations in Kerameikos until 1943, when he left Athens due to the war. In 1943 he received his habilitation at the University of Tübingen, but never taught and had to do service in the Second World War from 1943 to 1945 . After the war he devoted himself entirely to the processing and publication of his excavations in the early necropolis of Kerameikos at the Archaeological Institute in Tübingen .
