Karl Knauer (Romanist)

Karl Knauer (born August 16, 1906 in Hamburg , † May 22, 1966 in Munster ) was a German Romance philologist .

life and work

Knauer graduated from high school in Augsburg and studied in Munich from 1925. He received his doctorate there in 1929 as a student of Eugen Lerch with contributions to the expression of the abstract in French. State (property) and movement-thinking acts in the old French language (in: Romanische Forschungen 44, 1930, pp 185-254), was then a lecturer in Lille until 1932 and habilitated in 1935 (submitted 1933) in Münster with Eugen Lerch An artist of poetic prose in French pre-Romanticism. Then he taught in Münster, from 1935 as an adjunct professor, from 1939 as a civil servant dietician of the new order, from 1942 as an adjunct professor, from 1960 as a scientific adviser and associate professor.
For quantitative linguistics , Knauer is important with his multiple efforts to achieve a statistically sound style.

Knauer joined the Catholic Church in 1935 and left the SA in 1938.
