Karl-Heinz Best

Karl-Heinz Best (born January 28, 1943 in Koblenz ) is a German linguist who worked at the University of Göttingen .

Life

Best studied general linguistics and German studies at the University of Bonn from 1964 to 1966, and from 1966 to 1971 at the Ruhr University Bochum with a focus on general linguistics, German and Scandinavian studies . He was a student assistant at the Institute for Linguistics at the Ruhr University. In 1971 he received his doctorate in Bochum. From 1971 to 1974 he was a research assistant in Bochum, from 1974 first research assistant, then academic councilor and academic senior councilor at the University of Göttingen. Best is retired.

Focus of work

His work focuses on quantitative linguistics (with application to German and North Germanic languages ), as well as graphics , morphology , language acquisition and language change , borrowing processes ( foreign words / loan words ), comprehensibility research and the history of quantitative linguistics. He works at the Göttingen and Halle conferences on the subject of knowledge transfer (transfer sciences ) and is co-editor of the magazine Glottometrics , a member of the editorial board of the magazine Göttinger Contributions to Linguistics and head of the Göttingen project Quantitative Linguistics. His work includes several books, over 200 essays, reviews and lectures and over 100 book advertisements in the Germanistik magazine .
