Life

Karl Lütge studied at the Institute for Church Music in Berlin until 1902 . He worked on the Kaiserliederbuch - folk song collections for male choirs , mixed choirs and for the youth. In 1908 he became choirmaster of the Twelve Apostles Choir in Berlin-Schöneberg , in 1910 he also took over the office of organist at the Twelve Apostles Church and carried out both activities until 1945. After 1945 he returned to his home village of Ahstedt and was organist in the neighboring village of Garmissen until 1955.

To commemorate the Reformation in 1917, he published two song sheets, one of which contains two sets of songs based on Luther's text The best time in the year is mine , the melody of which Lütge wrote using older models. This song was included in many song books of the youth and singing movement and is now number 319 in the Evangelical Hymnal .
