Karl Mathes

Karl Mathes (born February 16, 1907 , † September 29, 1978 ) was a German local politician (first Bavaria party , later CSU ).

Life

Karl Mathes was a self-employed businessman.

In the night from April 30 to May 1, 1945, Karl Mathes and others are said to have dismantled an anti- tank barrier set up by the SS in Unterhaching , even before American troops moved in.

In 1952 he was elected mayor of Unterhaching as the successor to Josef Fertl. In the first few years he was still a volunteer. From 1966 the community had grown so much that he was appointed full-time mayor. During his term of office, the separation from Ottobrunn , the establishment of the settlements in Grünau and Fasanenpark, the move of the town hall in 1962 from the building on the corner of Mayor-Prenn-Straße and Kirchfeldstraße to the building at the intersection of Ottobrunner Straße and Grünauer Allee. He was re-elected mayor in four elections (1955, 1956, 1960 and 1966), and Engelbert Kupka was his successor in 1972 .
