The Karl Mayer Group ( own spelling KARL MAYER ) is a German group of companies active in the textile machinery industry . Under the umbrella of Karl Mayer Holding GmbH & Co. KG , based in Obertshausen , the group companies manufacture machines for the areas of warp knitting, technical textiles and warp preparation and weaving and sell digital solutions under the KM.ON brand. In addition to domestic subsidiaries, the parent company has others in China , Great Britain , Hong Kong , Italy , Japan , Switzerland and theUSA .

history

The company was founded by Karl Mayer in Obertshausen in 1937 as a mechanical workshop. Later the specialization in the production of warp knitting machines with the variants of warp knitting machines and Raschel machines followed . The first machine was delivered in 1948. In 1950 the range was expanded to include the production of warp preparation systems for warp knitting .

By 1990 the company had manufactured 75,000 textile machines for warp knitting and warp preparation worldwide. That was two thirds of the production machines manufactured worldwide for these areas at the time. In 1991 the production of warp preparation systems for weaving began.

In 2008 the manufacturer took over the weaving preparation division of Benninger AG in Uzwil (Switzerland) with 110 employees. In 2010 Karl Mayer was the world market leader with a market share of around 76% in terms of the number and value of warp knitting machines and warp preparation systems sold. That same year it was 100,000. Machine delivered. Around 90% of sales came from the export business. In addition to Western Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East were among the most important sales markets.

In 2014 the company took over LIBA Maschinenfabrik GmbH in Naila with 350 employees, which also produced knitting and warping machines. In 2017, Karl Mayer founded KM.ON GmbH as a software start-up for the development of digital solutions. A contract to acquire the STOLL Group was signed in February 2020.

Today the company operates in four business areas:

  • Knitting machines with the product groups lace, tricot, Raschel and double raschel machines for the production of high-quality inelastic and elastic lace, functional linen and clothing fabrics, spacer fabrics, seamless articles, plush fabrics, curtains, terry goods and semi-technical goods; Machines for the production of special textiles, e.g. B. for medical use; Warping machines for warp knitting
  • Warp preparation with warp preparation systems for weaving such as sizing and assembling machines, beaming and warping machines, sectional warping machines, sample warping machines, denim dyeing systems and gates
  • Technical textiles with a focus on machines for the production of high-strength textiles or open meshes, especially for fiber reinforcement of composites, plus weft-knitting and composite machines, fiber spreading systems and a spreading and impregnation system for the continuous production of fiber-reinforced thermoplastic tapes
  • KM.ON with a digital portfolio that includes eight solution categories to support customers in selected areas and access via a conventional industrial PC in combination with a corresponding computer program
