Karl Meyer (born October 1, 1925 ) is a former German soccer player. He played for Turbine Erfurt and progress in Weißenfels in the 1950s in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . With Turbine Erfurt he was GDR champion in 1955.

Athletic career

In the 1953/54 season, Karl Meyer appeared for the first time in the squad of the second-rate GDR league team progress Weissenfels. He was used in ten of the 26 played point games and scored two goals. For the 1954/55 season, Meyer moved to the upper division and GDR champions Turbine Erfurt. There he was used on the first match day in the encounter Turbine Erfurt - activist Brieske-Senftenberg (0: 2) as a substitute in the 46th minute. In the following five point games he was called up as a center forward or on the left wing attacking position. In the fall of 1955, a so-called transition round was held in GDR football in order to then switch the seasons to the calendar year rhythm. At the beginning of the transition period, Meyer returned to SC Progress Weissenfels, which had just been promoted to the top division. As a center forward, Meyer played all 13 league games and was the Weißenfelser's top scorer with seven goals. In the league season 1956 Meyer was there from the beginning and completed all 13 point games until the end of the first half of the season. The encounter progress Weißenfels - Lokomotive Stendal (5: 1) on June 3, 1956 was Meyer's last league game. He had 21 championship appearances in the top GDR football class, he played nine times for Turbine Erfurt and 13 times for progress in Weißenfels. He scored one goal for each team.

After the end of his senior league career Meyer joined the fourth-class district league club Dynamo Erfurt . With him he became district champion in 1958 and rose with him for one season in the third class II. GDR league .
