Karl Noehles

Karl Noehles (born November 8, 1922 in Münster ; † January 21, 2018 ) was a German art historian .

After the end of the Second World War, Noehles studied art history, archeology and German literary history at the University of Münster . In 1953, with a thesis on Westphalian baptismal fonts from the 12th and 13th centuries, he became Dr. phil. PhD. From 1954 to 1962 he was a fellow at the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome . In 1964 he completed his habilitation with a paper on the Church of San Luca. Since 1964 he has lectured in Münster and since 1969 has held a professorship for art history at the University of Münster.

Scientific work areas were German and Italian medieval sculpture as well as German and Italian baroque architecture and Westphalian art history.

In 1997 he was accepted into the Accademia di San Luca in Rome.
