Karl Plepelits
Karl Plepelits (* 1940 in Vienna ) is an Austrian classical philologist , Byzantinist , teacher , literary translator and writer .
Life
Plepelits grew up in Melk and got his Matura there at the Stiftsgymnasium Melk . From 1958 to 1964 he studied classical philology in Vienna , from 1965 to 1970 English in Innsbruck . From 1963 to 1970 he was a teacher of Latin, Greek, English and German at the Jesuit college Stella Matutina in Feldkirch and for a short time in 1970 at the Lichtenfelsgymnasium Graz . After receiving his doctorate with a dissertation published in 1970 on the Greek comedy poet Eupolis , he was a research assistant at the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae in Munich from 1970 to 1979 as a representative of the Austrian Academy of Sciences . From 1979 until his retirement in 2000 he was again a teacher for Latin and English (at the Seebachergymnasium, Graz). He has lived in Kapfenberg since 1996 .
Plepelits publishes short prose, short stories and novels. He has translated five romance novels from ancient Greece and the Byzantine Middle Ages.
