Karl Schiffner

Karl Schiffner (born May 29, 1960 in Aigen im Mühlkreis , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian sommelier with a focus on beer .

Schiffner and his wife Gisela have been running a beer inn in Aigen-Schlägl since 1987 , which was awarded by Gault Millau for its beer range in 2017 .

He graduated from the Salzkammergut tourism school as a hotel and tourism clerk . He trained as a qualified sommelier in 1998 at WIFI in Linz. In 2004 he attended a course to become a certified beer sommelier and has been a beer sommelier from the very beginning. At the first world championship of beer sommeliers in April 2009 in Sonthofen , he prevailed against 47 competitors from all over the world. His son Felix was runner-up at the fifth beer sommelier world championship eight years later.

Together with the Doemens Brewery Academy , Karl Schiffner developed a beer fan . This is a special color fan for assessing types of beer. He is also a lecturer for Doemens.
