Karl Schlechta (soccer player)

Karl Schlechta (born January 28, 1922 - † September 5, 2016 ) was an Austrian football player and coach .

Career

Schlechta started playing soccer at Hakoah Vienna . He then worked at Wacker Vienna and then at Floridsdorfer AC . As early as 1952 he began to work as a trainer, first at his parent club Wacker Vienna, where he looked after junior teams and later also the combat team. In 1957 he came to FK Austria Wien as a junior supervisor; from 1960 he became the supervisor of the combat team. With Austria he achieved a cup win in 1960 and the championship in 1961 and 1962.

Other coaching stations were LASK Linz , Wiener AC and Red Star. In the 1970/71 season he was runner- up with SV Austria Salzburg . From 1972 to 1977 he was the coach of SK Sturm Graz , with whom he reached the quarter-finals of the European Cup Winners' Cup. After two years at Rapid Vienna, he ended his coaching career at the Wiener Sport-Club .

Karl Schlechta was always a supporter of the next generation. Heribert Weber , Gernot Jurtin , Andy Pichler and Manfred Steiner made the leap into the national team during his time as coach of Sturm Graz .
