Karl Schramm (dramaturge)

Karl Schramm (born December 14, 1906 in Mainz ; † July 27, 1969 there ) was a German dramaturge and writer .

Life

Karl Schramm was the son of a butcher and innkeeper in Mainz's old town . He completed a bank apprenticeship and then studied German and theater studies at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . He wrote his dissertation in 1936 on Friedrich Hebbel's drama Agnes Bernauer on German theaters.

Then Schramm was hired as a dramaturge at the Stadttheater Mainz . In the 1937/1938 season he came to the State Theater Stuttgart as a dramaturge . He then worked at the Krefeld City Theater until 1944 . In 1946 he returned to the Mainz City Theater as chief dramaturge, when the latter was initially playing the powder tower on a makeshift basis .

Schramm had a keen interest in Mainz's history and culture. He published several books on Mainz topics, including in 1957 the Mainz dictionary on the Middle Rhine dialect.

Karl Schramm was married and had two daughters. He died in Mainz in July 1969. His grave is in the main cemetery in Mainz . His sister Henny Schramm was an actress at the Kassel State Theater .
