Karl Schwarz (architect)

Karl Schwarz (born August 11, 1886 in Zülpich , † April 22, 1959 in Bad Godesberg ) was a German architect .

Life

Schwarz came to Godesberg in April 1914 as an employee of the construction company Theodor Wilhelm Düren , where he stayed from then on, with the exception of interruptions in 1916/17 and 1918/19. In October 1920, he started his own business as an architect in Godesberg. His work includes private houses in particular, but also some sacred buildings, and stylistically can be assigned to Art Déco and Expressionism and, in terms of ornamentation, partly to Art Nouveau . One focus of his activity was in the residential and country house districts of the Plittersdorf districts close to the Rhine - there in particular on Mittelstraße, Plittersdorfer Straße, Simrockallee, Spiegelhofstraße, Stirzenhofstraße and Ubierstraße - and Rüngsdorf , where numerous houses in Rolandstraße were designed according to his designs in the early 1920s and in the 1930s almost all of the buildings on Fasanenstrasse were built. In 1933 Schwarz entered into a collaboration with the Cologne architect Edmund Bolten in the form of the “Bolten & Schwarz” consortium and planned the garden city “Deichmanns Aue” with him.

After the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany, Schwarz became involved in local politics for the FDP , from April 1954 as its representative in the settlement committee and from November 1956 as a deputy member in the building committee and in the fire service committee of the Bad Godesberg city council . Schwarz was buried on April 27, 1959 in the Bad Godesberg castle cemetery.
