Karl Staab (cathedral dean)
Karl Staab (born March 17, 1875 in Großlaudenbach , † January 18, 1954 in Würzburg ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman, cathedral dean in Würzburg Cathedral and house prelate of Pope Pius XII.
Life
Karl Staab was born on March 17, 1875 as the youngest of eight children of the farmer and miller's husbands Johann Adam and Dorothea Staab in the Staabs mill in Großlaudenbach. From 1881 he attended elementary school in Kleinkahl. The home chaplain Ignaz Weber taught him the basics of Latin and prepared him for the entrance examination into the third grade of the Aschaffenburg high school. He stayed there for two years before moving on to the fifth grade of the New Gymnasium in Würzburg, which he left in 1895 with the certificate of maturity. He did his philosophical and theological studies at the University of Würzburg . He was ordained a priest on July 30, 1899 by Bishop Ferdinand von Schlör in the Würzburg Michaelskirche . On August 6, 1899, he celebrated his primacy in the branch church in Kleinkahl, at that time still part of the Schöllkrippen- Ernstkirchen parish . He started the first pastoral care position on August 18, 1899 as a chaplain in Bad Kissingen. Two years later he was transferred to the cathedral in Würzburg as a chaplain. On April 1, 1904, Bishop Ferdinand von Schlör appointed him as an assistant at the seminary in Würzburg . In the period that followed, Karl Staab earned his theological doctorate in Strasbourg and his philosophical doctorate in Würzburg. In 1911 he became sub-rain and in the same year rain of the seminary. In autumn 1926 Regens Staab was appointed cathedral chapter . At the same time he took over the office of official , which he held until the last day of life. In 1938 Pope Pius XII appointed him cathedral dean and in 1945 his house prelate. During the bombing of Würzburg on March 16, 1945 , the eve of his 70th birthday, his two housekeepers and his great-nephew Otto Staab died; his personal effects were destroyed. He himself got away with his life and found accommodation in the Himmelspforten monastery in Würzburg and then in the Oberzell monastery near Würzburg. He was still living there when he celebrated his golden jubilee as a priest on July 30, 1949. Karl Staab died in Würzburg in the morning hours of January 18, 1954, at the age of almost 79 years. At his request, he was not buried in Würzburg, where he worked for many years, but in his parents' grave in the cemetery in the parish of Kleinkahl.
