Karl Völker (entrepreneur)

Karl Völker (born September 22, 1923 in Steinsfurt ; † July 6, 2009 ) was a German entrepreneur.

Career

From 1941 he served in the Navy , where he was trained as a mechanical engineer. It was there that he met his future business partner Johannes Schultz.

After returning from captivity, he studied electrical engineering from 1948–1950 at the Mannheim City Engineering School , now the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences , and graduated as a graduate engineer .

As a project engineer, he first worked at Bopp & Reuther in Mannheim in the field of electrical remote transmission of measured values. In 1952 he moved to Siemens AG in Mannheim, which sent him to Persia in 1955 .

With Schulz, whom he had met again, he founded a part-time sales office for heating cost meters in 1957 until he left Siemens in 1963 and devoted himself to his own Ista-Haustechnik GmbH . As early as the 1980s, he employed more than 1000 people nationwide in this company. From 1988 he was chairman of the company's board of directors. In 1990 he retired from business life and sold his company.

Karl Völker Foundation

At the then Mannheim University of Applied Sciences , he founded the Karl Völker Foundation (KVS) in 1990 with endowment capital of DM 2 million from the sales proceeds of his company, which is supposed to promote science and research at the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences. The foundation now has a capital of around 5 million euros and funds the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences alone with 400,000 euros annually. Furthermore, it awards an annual prize of 2500 euros for outstanding diploma theses from the electrical engineering and information technology faculties of the Mannheim University.
