Karl Voss (sculptor)
Karl Voss (born November 5, 1825 in Dünnwald near Cologne , † August 22, 1896 in Bonn ) was a German sculptor .
life and work
Karl Voss studied in Munich and Brussels and lived in Rome from 1850 to 1894, where he created numerous ideal sculptures in the spirit of antiquity, which were also widely acclaimed in Germany. B. “Bacchante joking with Bacchus”, “Hebe watering the eagle”, “Rebekah at the fountain”, “Cupid and Psyche”. He was assigned to the so-called " German Romans ", for whom Friedrich Wilhelm IV. Of Prussia had a preference. That is why two sculptures by Voss have been preserved in the Raffael Hall of the Orangery Palace in Potsdam ( Ganymed and Hebe ).
The painter Carl Leopold Voss (1856–1921) was his son.
