Karl von Hertling

Karl Freiherr von Hertling (born February 15, 1843 in Aschaffenburg , † October 2, 1908 in Buitenzorg , Dutch East Indies ) was a German forester in the Dutch East Indies.

Life

He should not be confused with the son of the same name of Georg Graf von Hertling (1843–1919), Chancellor of the German Empire from November 1, 1917 to September 30, 1918.

Karl Freiherr von Hertling came from the electoral Palatinate , later Bavarian noble family von Hertling and was the son of the Bavarian forester Michael Joseph Freiherr von Hertling (1802–1867) and his wife Wilhelmine von Bourcourd (1811–1884). Hertling studied at the Aschaffenburg Forest Academy and became a member of the Corps Hubertia Munich in 1862 . He entered the service of the Crown Netherlands and was chief forester on Java from 1865 to 1890 . The nun and founder of the monastery Ignatia von Hertling (1838–1909) was his sister, the German Chancellor Georg von Hertling his cousin.
