Karlheinz Barck

Karlheinz (Carlo) Barck (born November 28, 1934 in Quedlinburg ; † September 30, 2012 in Berlin ) was a German Romanist .

Life

Karlheinz Barck studied from 1953 to 1958 at the Humboldt University in Berlin and since 1960 at the University of Rostock . Here Barck received his doctorate in 1966 with his dissertation on José Ortega y Gasset . He then went to the Central Institute for the History of Literature at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR in Berlin as a research assistant , where he worked until 1992. During this time he completed his habilitation in 1989 with studies on the history of reflection of poetic imagination between the Enlightenment and the modern . Barck's academic focus lay in the literary history of Spanish and French modernism, the history of literary studies and the theory of aesthetic thought. From 1992 Barck worked as a project manager at the Berlin Center for Literary and Cultural Research, which honored him with a commemorative publication on his 70th birthday. Guest lectureships have taken him to Canada and Brazil, among others. His special achievement is the maintenance and publication of the seven-volume dictionary Aesthetic Basic Concepts. Since 2017 the ZfL has been awarding the Carlo Barck Prize for an outstanding dissertation in literary and cultural studies. Barck's grave is in the Sophien cemetery in Berlin.
