The Karlstein is a memorial stone in the vineyards near Endersbach and Strümpfelbach (both districts of Weinstadt east of Stuttgart ). There is a lookout point at about 430 m above sea level , which offers a wide view of the Remstal and as far as Stuttgart. There is a barbecue area with a children's playground right on the edge of the forest . The barbecue area was created in 1992 and renovated in 2006 and 2018. The swing and seesaw as well as two tables were renewed in summer 2015. As part of the Remstal Garden Show 2019, two new barbecue areas were created in August 2018, and the tables and benches were completely renewed.

The Karlstein goes back to a settlement of district disputes between Strümpfelbach and Endersbach by Duke Carl Eugen von Württemberg in 1793, when the two places were fighting over forest ownership. To thank this arbitration, a large memorial stone was erected in the forest.

This memorial stone from 1793 bears the inscription:

"This stone
sey
to eternal remembrance
of the best land Vatters
CARLS
Duke of Württemberg
of here
between the Enders Bacher
and Strümpfelbacher community
Waldstrittigkeiten
happy beylegte
6.7. Juny 1793 "

This memorial stone was exhibited in the local history museum Endersbach for a long time. Later he was moved to the Silcher elementary school due to lack of space.

The sculptor Karl Ulrich Nuss , who lives in Strümpfelbach, designed and installed a new stone in 1973.

The inscription on the new stone reads:

"In the eternal memory of the most gracious father of
the fatherland Karl Duke of Württemberg
who finally solemnly and happily settled the disputes over forest areas between
Endersbach and Strümpfelbach
here on June 7, 1793"

In 2012, the Friends of the Karlstein Association put the restored stone from 1793 back in its original location.

The association has set itself the task of keeping the memory of the settlement of the forest dispute alive through suitable actions. Usually this takes the form of an event on New Year's morning .
