The Wuermeling-Pass , also written Wuermeling- or Würmeling-Pass and called Karnickelpass or Karnickelschein , was the colloquial name for the authorization card "Reduced fare for large families".

history

The Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) offered the ID card to children up to the age of 25 from large families based on a decision by the federal government under Konrad Adenauer of December 14, 1955 . This was preceded by 50% discounts from DB for children from large families from 10 to 18 years of age. The decision was passed at the instigation of the then Family Minister Franz-Josef Wuermeling . The tariff change came into effect on March 15, 1956 and was valid until December 31, 1992. The German Bahn AG as the successor to the German Federal Railways introduced on April 1, 1999, under a tariff change of rail card offering a final. Most recently, the offer was included in the BahnCard range of products for some time and was officially named "BahnCard Wuermeling" for a short time. This BahnCard was even a significant improvement in the offer compared to the old authorization card, as children up to 11 years of age also received a 50% discount on the children's fare.

advantages

The authorization cards were issued to “large families with at least three unmarried children”. Children between the ages of 12 and 18 paid only half for single journeys, return tickets, holiday tickets and express train surcharges. Due to the law, the existing regulation of the DB was extended to children from 18 to 25 years of age, provided they were unmarried and child benefit was paid for them. If one in three children were no longer eligible, the remaining children were no longer entitled to a discount.
