Karol Adwentowicz (born October 19, 1871 in Wielogóra near Radom , † July 19, 1958 in Warsaw ) was a Polish theater and film actor , director and theater director .

Life

He began his acting career as an amateur in 1894. He had his breakthrough in the theater in 1900. Until 1912 he played at the City Theater in Lwów . In 1929 and 1930 he was the director of the City Theater in Łódź and from 1932 until the outbreak of World War II he was the director of the Polish Theater in Warsaw ( Polski teatr w Warszawie ).

In 1934 he played the main role in the film Przeor Kordecki - Obrońca Częstochowy , directed by Edward Puchalski .

He was one of the best Polish drama actors of the first half of the 20th century. In 1953 he received the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland and in 1955 the People's Prize ( Nagroda Państwowa ) 1st class. A street in Łódź was named after him.
