Karolina Szwed-Ørneborg (born April 23, 1989 in Gdansk ) is a Polish handball player who belongs to the squad of the Polish national team.

Career

Karolina Szwed-Ørneborg initially played in her hometown for the Polish first division club AZS-AWFiS Gdańsk. In January 2009, the back player moved to the league competitor Łączpol Gdynia , where she received a contract that ran until the summer of 2009. At the end of the season she extended her contract with Łączpol Gdynia. With Łączpol Gdynia she reached the semifinals of the EHF Challenge Cup in the 2009/10 season . After Szwed won the Polish championship in 2012, the Danish first division club HC Odense signed them. In the 2012/13 season she was the most dangerous player in the Odense jersey with 95 goals. In the summer of 2013, the Pole moved to the German Bundesliga club HC Leipzig . There she was on leave in January 2014 together with her husband, coach Thomas Ørneborg . Then she took a break.

Karolina Szwed-Ørneborg played a total of 35 international matches for the Polish national team until November 8, 2013. With the Polish selection, she took part in the 2013 World Cup in Serbia . During the tournament, she scored eleven goals in nine games.

Private

Karolina Szwed-Ørneborg married the Danish handball coach Thomas Ørneborg in August 2012, whom she already met during her time at Łączpol Gdynia.
