The Karpatenblatt is the online portal and magazine of the German minority in Slovakia. It is the only German-language magazine in the country. The print edition appears once a month and is published by the Carpathian German Association . The magazine is mainly read by around 4800 members of the association, but also has numerous subscribers from Germany and Austria . The editorial office is located in Košice . The magazine of the German minority in Slovakia first appeared in July 1992.

Online and print magazine

The magazine informs on 24 pages about cultural events of Germans in Slovakia, about the latest from Slovakia , minority issues and the German language. The Karpatenblatt also publishes riddles about the dialects of the German minority online. For example, a quiz was published on the Bratislava dialect, one on the German dialects of central Slovakia or on a German dialect in the Spiš .

For the article The cemetery in Zborov - a sign of reconciliation , the Karpatenblatt received the 1995 Journalism Prize from the Evangelical Media Academy in Frankfurt am Main.

Youth paper

The youth paper appears as a monthly supplement to the Karpatenblatt. It provides information about the Carpathian German youth and their projects. For example, multimedia walks with the Carpathian Germans were created in cooperation with the German Studies Department at the Comenius University in Bratislava . Based on the audio stories of the students, you can follow in the footsteps of the German minority in the Slovak capital. In the youth paper, committed members of the Carpathian German youth are interviewed in the series KDJ .

Carpathian radio

The Karpatenblatt has been publishing the Karpatenfunk podcast since April 2020. You can hear dialect stories, memories, fairy tales and interviews. New episodes appear on Thursday evenings, with the programs "Infozeit" and "Erzählzeit" alternating.

Media education

The editorial team of the Karpatenblatt has also been running media educational workshops for children and young people since 2017. For example, project days on the subject of “Mobile Reporting” were held at schools belonging to the German minority. YouTube workshops, an animation seminar and journalism workshops were organized for young people and students.
