The Karyolung is a 6511 m high glaciated mountain in the Himalayas in the southeast of the Rolwaling Himal mountain group .
A ridge connects the Karyolung with the northern Khatang and northwestern Numbur . On the west flank, the Dudhkund Glacier flows in a southerly direction.
The Karyolung was first climbed at the end of October / beginning of November 1982 by an expedition consisting of members of the Nepalese police and several Japanese. The ascent route led over the northeast face. On October 31st the Japanese Inoue, Hiroshi Nishi, Masatoshi Isawa and the two Nepalese Thapa and Baburam Tan reached the summit. On the same day, a second rope team consisting of Gorey Tamang and Gita Bahadur Joshi as well as the Sherpa Pemba Tsering reached the summit. The next day, November 1st, a group with two Japanese women (Sohei Fuji, Yasuhiko Nakao, Kozuko Mainasaki, Makao Nishimara and Makio Nakahara) and a Nepalese climbed the summit.
The mountain was then opened for foreign expeditions.
