The Khatang is a 6853 m (according to other sources 6790 m ) glaciated peak in the Himalayas in the southeast of the Rolwaling Himal mountain range .
A ridge connects the Khatang with Numbur ( 6958 m ) to the west and Karyolung ( 6511 m ) to the south . On the southern flank, the Dudhkund Glacier flows in a southerly direction, on the northern flank the Lumding Glacier flows in an easterly direction.
The khatang was opened for ascents in 1981. At the beginning of November 1982 the Khatang was first climbed by a Japanese expedition. The ascent route led over the northeast ridge. On November 1st, Tastumi Kawamura, Yoshimi Kitayama and Dorje Sherpa reached the summit. On the following days they were followed by Koji Kimura, Hideaki Sato and Chiharu Watanabe as well as a group of climbers consisting of Kenji Koyama, Shigenori Sawada and Takehiko Ono.
