The Karzachi Lake ( Georgian კარწახის ტბა , Karzachis Tba; Turkish Aktaş Gölü ) is a lake on the border of the Çıldır district in the Turkish province of Ardahan and the Georgian region of Samtskhe-Javakheti .
The 27 km² large lake is of tectonic origin and lies on a plateau at an altitude of 1798 m . The Georgian share is slightly larger than the Turkish one. There are twelve islands in the lake, which is one of the largest in Georgia . It is fed by a few small streams and drains on the Turkish side into the Kura, which flows past about 6 km northwest and 400 meters lower . Reeds grow on the shore and on the islands .
Fishing is carried out with conventional fishing equipment on the shore of the lake. The Dalmatian Pelican has settled here.
The lake does not have the status of a nature reserve, but because it is in a military area, human activities are restricted.
The third border crossing between Georgia and Turkey (next main town Çıldır / Georgian ჩრდილი / Chrdili) in the province of Ardahan has existed near the lake shore since 2016 .
