The Spheros GmbH was a manufacturer of air conditioning systems and heating devices for buses and rail vehicles , roof hatches, water pumps for commercial and rail vehicles, based in Gilching . In 2007 the company employed 700 people and had a turnover of 130 million euros.

The headquarters (development / head office) was in Gilching near Munich. Production sites were in Neubrandenburg (air conditioners for buses and rail vehicles, water heaters for commercial vehicles, buses and rail vehicles, water pumps for all applications) and in Turkey and Ukraine , as well as in South America and Asia . Spheros is a made-up word that goes back to Webasto products when Webasto's bus division was sold: Aerosphere / Aquasphere . These product names refer to rooftop air conditioners for buses and rail vehicles (LINT).

Spheros emerged from Webasto Bus GmbH, which was sold by Webasto (Stockdorf near Munich), and is therefore a manufacturer with decades of experience in its specialty. The company supplied air conditioning systems to all leading bus manufacturers, such as B. Neoman , EvoBus , Volvo Buses and Solaris . Rail vehicle manufacturers such as Alstom (vehicle type "LINT" diesel multiple units) and locomotive manufacturers such as Vossloh MAK , Bombardier and Siemens were also supplied. As a system supplier, Spheros also delivered complete heating and air conditioning systems for all types of commercial vehicles for passenger transport (buses / rail vehicles).

In 2008 the company closed the production facility for rooftop air conditioning units in Heimsbrunn (France) and relocated it to Neubrandenburg. The production of the products in Central Europe was thus concentrated at this location.

In 2016, Valeo took over Spheros from Deutsche Beteiligungs AG , which at the end of 2011 bought Spheros from Granville Baird. The company has been trading as Valeo Thermal Commercial Vehicles since 2017 .
