Kasiui ( Indonesian Pulau Kasiui , also Kesui, Kasui ) is one of the Indonesian Watubela Islands , which belong to the Moluccas .

geography

Kasiui is the largest of the Watubela Islands. There are five villages ( Desa ) on it: Utta ( Utah , Uta , Oeta ) on the north east coast, Tamher Timur ( Temeer Timur ) on the south coast, Tamher Barat ( Temeer Barat ) on the south west coast, Kelangan ( Kalangan ) on the south east coast and Amar Laut ( Amarlaut ) between Kelangan and Utta. The fishing port of Gulir is located on the central west coast and administratively belongs to Tamher Barat.

As part of the sub-district ( Kecamatan ) Wakate , Kasiui belongs to the administrative district ( Kabupaten ) East Seram of Maluku Province .

Around the islands there are coral reefs and seagrass meadows, which are characterized by a high level of biodiversity . There are also mangrove forests, which are distributed in smaller areas on the coast of Kasiui.

population

In 2010 Kasiui had 5,208 inhabitants. The Watubela ( Wesi ) ethnic group on Kasiui speaks the Austronesian language Watubela . The Watubela are predominantly Muslim, 25% are Christians.
